Whew- what a fun day we had at Lakeside Academy yesterday! All eleven kids were there for the first time (welcome back Kristin and Hannah) AND we were celebrating Halloween a week late AND there was rain so we opened up the playroom to the vast toy selection so there was excitement all day long.
We painted some mini-pumpkins to take home.
Nana made the kids some really cool orange and black playdough and they used Halloween cookie cutters to create some spooky masterpieces. Lots of the kids said that the playdough was their favorite part of the day, you don't get to play with black playdough very often!

For cooking today Nana helped the kids make Rice Krispie Treat pumpkins. First the kids measured
out the butter and the mini-marshmallows into crockpots. We let those heat up and get gooey while
we had lunch and circle time.
Later on the kids added in orange food coloring and scoops of Rice Krispies.
After we generously sprayed the kids hands with olive oil, we gave a cupful of Rice Krispie Treat to each child and they formed it in to their own little pumpkin.
Then they each got a green candy Dot to put on top for the stem.

The kids were very happy with their snacks!
We managed to slow down lunch time a bit this week and having big sister Hannah around to help encourage the kids to eat more was great. They still insisted on a "boys" table and a "girls" table.
Circle time was lots of fun with the bigger group of kids. The younger kids stole the show again during show-and-tell with their long, funny tales and then we were treated to a very special show-and-tell when Kristin shared her beautiful artwork with us- we can't wait to see her next creation.

Halloween songs and fingerplays.
To add to our celebration we did some face painting too. We had a butterfly, two hearts, a ghost, a bat, a flower, a black goldfish, a vampire, two dogs and (my favorite) stripes.
At the end of the day we went out front for a special activity- the Feely Walk. The idea is that you put out a bunch of containers with odd things in them creating different textures for the kids to step in and feel with their toes. For older children they would do this blindfolded and try to guess what each thing is- today we did it with eyes open and it was just as much fun.
It was really messy- but no worries- Nana took care of that with a hose and the kids LOVED it. Hope you parents didn't mind the wet children we sent you home with!
Next week we will be learning all about Space with your little astronauts.
