Loretta Boyd

Union 

Loretta Boyd is 21 years old and she has a dad and a sister.  Her mom died and her family lives in Washington D.C.  Loretta lives in Charlottesville, Virginia.  She had a good education.  She is nurse in the Union army.  She is part of the Freedomator regiment.  She is very nice and she is confused about if she wants to join the war.

Loren is a rich farmer who moved to the north before the war started.  He is 65 years old.  His wife moved with him before she died.

Herman Hammond

Union

Herman Hammond is a private in the Union army.  He is 18 years old and he is from Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Herman did not have a good education and he was very poor.  His family is his mom, dad and twin sisters.  He is a good man but he has never been far away from his farm.  He doesn't really care about slavery because he has never met any black people.  But he thinks the South should be brought back into the Union.

David Hammond

Herman's Father

David Hammond is 45 years old and lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He is a corn and hog farmer.  He doesn't think slavery is a big deal and that his son shouldn't go to war.  He is worried about his twin daughters needing their older brother at home.
