The Ancient Mayan way of life gave modern time multiple things.  The Mayans were the some of the first people to play professional sports which is kind of interesting because it was kind of like modern basketball and soccer combined and reminded the Mayans of their past.  The Mayans created the first calender which was surprisingly correct because it had three hundred sixty days and told them when was best to plant, harvest, and raise livestock.  That Mayan calender was a base for the modern one, for all we would have to do to modify the Mayan calender is add five more days.  The Mayans were very advanced for their time period even though their religion was much like that of the Greeks in that they thought that there was an underworld as well as this world.  The Mayans were known for writing in both symbols as the Egyptians did and an alphabet system again like the Greeks.  The Mayans are the reason we call the month before June, May.  The Mayans were awesome because of how many things that we learned from just their writings alone.  I have a feeling that the end of this ancient group of people may have been caused by a drought or famine rather than what historians think.
