Daddio: Grand Caytion- Hermit's Rest

On the first full day we were at the Grand Canyon (Tuesday), we decided to take the shuttle system to see the various overlooks on the Western side of the Canyon.  The Grand Canyon has a great free bus/shuttle system that has stops every half mile or so on the different routes and throughout the Village Center (where the visitor's center and shops are).  The kids liked sitting on the buses instead of having to hike many miles to see the different awesome views of the Canyon-  although sometimes we skipped the bus and would hike between the overlooks and pick up the bus at the next stop.  Here we are waiting at one of the stops:

Here's some shots of us enjoying the ride:

Max even made sure to take a shot of Mommio:
The views of the Grand Canyon were simply amazing.  These pictures (or really any pictures) can't do it justice.  It really is something you have to see to believe:

The walk up and down all the stairs was hard on Connor's legs, so he waited back some of the times with Jack:

Hermit's Rest is a great building designed by Mary Coulter, the original architect hired to design a lot of the buildings in the 1900s.  The kids learned a lot about her in their unit study on the Grand Canyon, and it was really cool for them to see one of her designs in real life:

And at Hermit's Rest we looked through the telescopes down to the valley, which was really awesome:

It was a long day, and we were out of camp for about four hours seeing the sites, but it was well worth it.
