Mommio: CSA Farm Visit

Yesterday we got to go visit the farm where our CSA vegetables are being grown and it was a great experience!  The farm is called Cypress Valley Farms and it is a part of a place in Spicewood, Texas where they have treetop zipline tours called Cypress Valley Canopy Tours.  So when we first arrived we were able to watch a group that was learning to use the zipline...it was really cool and several of us are hoping to go back and try it out sometime.  Then we met with Ariel, the farm manager, and he gave us a great tour of the place.  We got to ride in a Jones family sized golf cart for the tour.
Ariel showed us the fields in all different stages, here is a shot of one of the newest fields where carrots and leafy greens are starting to grow.  In just a few weeks these will start being added to our CSA baskets too.
Ariel also took us on a little walk through the fields that are producing right now and explained what they are growing and answered a lot of our questions.  Here he is showing us the rows of miniature bell peppers that are almost ready to harvest.
After the field tour we went to the cold house to pick up our basket of vegetables and our eggs for the week.  It was pretty cool seeing where they keep everything and where they are drying vegetables to harvest the seeds for their next season of crops.  Here is what we came home with from the farm.
We all had a great time at the farm (and of course there were farm dogs there to please Max and Jack) and it was nice to see where our food comes from, which is only about 20 minutes from our front door, and that we are helping to support a  local community farm.  We can't wait to go back again!
