Mommio: World Geography Unit Study

We have finally finished our Edgar Allan Poe Unit Study! It stretched from January until now for various medical reasons.  Despite it taking so long to get through we all really enjoyed it and I think the kids will have lasting memories of many of the poems and stories we studied.  Our next study will take just as long, but this time because we have SO much to cover.
This week we start a World Geography Unit Study- we decided on this study after the kids came up with a list of topics they were interested in and this one was at the top.  We are using this book as our guide through the unit:
Each week we will be mapping/labeling things on maps, learning about different regions of the world and answering questions by using an atlas.  Here are some of the atlases we will be using:
Here is a sample of the type of questions the kids will need to answer each day.  There will be harder questions for the older kids and easier ones for the younger kids, as well as harder to use and easier to use atlases.  They will also be using the internet to find the answers.
We will also be learning about the different cultures each week through art, cooking and math games using these books:
The first two weeks of the unit focus on studying the entire Earth, after that the unit is divided by continent studies- each lasting a few months.  I will be assigning the kids books to read to go along with each section that we study.  To start off with we are all reading various books about traveling the world. Here's what they have already begun to read:
And I am reading a book written by a famous 1920's American explorer, Richard Halliburton, about his first world adventure-
Connor and Daddio are also reading a book written by Hallibutron (seen in the stack pictured above) about his quest to follow in the footsteps of Odysseus- very exciting.  Book reviews and posts about our study each week coming soon!
