Mommio: Homeschool With Kiki

Kiki has been doing so great with her school work lately that I thought it might be time to let everyone know what she's been doing.  She spends an hour with Nana every school day working on math, reading, writing, phonics and grammar. Here's a look at some of what she does-
Math
We just decided that Kiki is done with first grade math (Saxon1) today.  Here was the last lesson she did.
She is starting to get a little bored with this level and it does seem too easy for her, so next week we'll start on the next level.  Second grade math!  She is pretty excited about it, math is her thing.
Reading
Kiki is a great reader already and she works on many different lessons to help her improve.  She practices sight words each day.
She completes a stack of phonics worksheets that look similar to this.

She also reads various books and phonics leveled books to Nana each day.  Progressive Phonics is what they use most days.
Writing
Kiki is getting ready to start writing a lot more on her own.  Right now she mostly dictates her blog posts and stories, but she is ready to move to more creative writing on her own at this point.  So today she started some simple grammar lessons to learn about sentence building.

And tomorrow I will give her the first real writing assignment to practice her actual handwriting as well as spelling and sentence building on her own.  I know she will love it!
Other Stuff
Kiki has been doing our World Geography Unit with us for the last few months.  This is the first time she has joined in a unit study and she is so happy with it.  She LOVES maps and has a special interest in this big World Atlas book that shows all the layers of the Earth.
Way to go Kiki and a big thanks to Nana for being such a great kindergarten teacher!
Toes- If you are reading this please leave a comment congratulating Kiki on all her hard work.

Kiki is fun to teach because she loves school. She gets excited doing math...finding patterns, counting by 10s or twos. She can add or subtract a page of problems with the speed of light...Math is her thing. But she is doing so well with her reading and now writing. We are both so excited about learning all about how to write so she can blog all by herself. Kiki you are doing a great job.
