Mommio: Art Class (and music too)

Today in art class we continued our study of Michelangelo with a lesson about the Sistine Chapel.  We learned a bit about the history of this amazing mural: that Michelangelo was not happy that the Pope asked him to do this project, that it took four straight years of work, Michelangelo spent much of his time on top of scaffolding in uncomfortable positions, and by the completion of the chapel his eyesight was almost ruined.   We had a closer look at one particular panel from the chapel that depicts the the Delphic Sybil.
Then we took a virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel and found the Delphic Sybil, among many other famous paintings. The kids got to take a try at painting in uncomfortable positions themselves today.  They all chose an outline drawing of a Sistine Chapel painting from this book.
Then we taped them to the bottom of the chairs and let the kids paint upside down.  A few of the kids complained a great deal about this (hurt backs, sore arms, etc.), but for most of them it was lots of fun.  Elder and Mason in particular really liked this and we are thinking about trying some upside down school work in the future.
Next week we move on to a study of Rafael.  We also had music class with our favorite music teacher today.  Here is a quick video of what they are up to this week.

The music keeps getting harder and they just keep getting better. Way to go guys!
