Last Sunday Dad, Marney and I went canoeing at Webberville Park in the Colorado River with the Campfire USA. There were a lot more people there than the last time. There were about 20 boats. When we got there we moved our cars to the other end of the river so when we were done canoeing we would have our cars. Then we waited when the other people moved their cars. When we started it was hard for us and we were turning in circles so I had to switch canoes. I didn't weigh enough to weigh down the end of the canoe so the wind and the current was pushing us in circles. Then canoeing went good after we switched canoes. We paddled for two hours and went about 4 1/2 miles. My favorite stroke is the one where you turn sideways, it is called a pull stroke. You put the paddle in out far in the water, and you pull it in to the boat and it makes you move towards the side that you are pulling. When I got to the end I went back and I got back in my canoe with Marney and Dad so I could finish with them. Then we got out and went to go eat burritos. I thought it was really fun and I am excited about going in February for our two day trip.

Connor and Gabe: Mojave Desert Animal
This is an animal we might see in Death Valley. This animal is a Chuckwalla. It eats the yellow flowers of the brittlebush and also eats other fruits and flowers as well as insects and leaves. It likes lava flows and rocky areas. Male chuckwallas do what appears to the human eye to be push-ups.
That looks like a cool lizard doesn't it? please post comment.

Gabe: Blog Of The Day
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
One day a guy went to a pet store and a turtle got lost. The turtle was eating a plant that gave him super powers. So then he turned in to a green, little, one person car. Then he ate big buildings in the city. Then a red and a purple ninja came to fight him. So the ninjas thought they killed him but he was just on his back. So then he ate them. The End

Gabe: Blog Of The Day (Wednesday)
Dear Nana,
I figured out how long Phobos is, it is 16.8 miles long. I also figured out that Phobos is really light. It took me 4 days to run across the planet and back. We did not bring a lot of food.
Love,
Gabe

Connor: Science
Today we started our first day of the science unit on not affecting our environment. We had more trash than usual like 8 diapers, many bits of food and food containers and paper. Yeah so basically we did not reduce our trash today. Today you kids made dish soap and laundry detergent. Mason and I had not helped. I really can't wait to start tomorrow's activity.

Connor and Gabe: The Adventures of Husky
The Strange Snowstorm
By Connor and Gabe
Hi, my name is Husky and I am a husky. One day this year a giant snowstorm came and destroyed half of New York city. I was so scared I went to the bathroom in my doghouse. I couldn't believe that New York was gone, but I decided to run all the way to Texas with my friends. It was so hot in Texas that I could swim in lake Marble Falls. I was shocked when I noticed there was no way out of the water on the side of the lake I was on, other than ladders. Then I looked up and saw a German Shepherd with a rope. He tied the rope to my tail and tried to pull me up, but I weighed too much. Soon there were tons of humans to pull me out of the water. When I got out of the water I was so excited that I jumped onto a roof and landed with a crash. Then I got down and looked at the German Shepherd and asked him if he would be my friend. When he said no I went to Chili's to eat out of the trash. Then I put on a Chili's suit and hat, which didn't fit me at all, and then went through the front door and acted like I worked there, but I couldn't get out. Then I saw a pretty poodle. She had a pink bow on her head and I thought she was looking at me. I asked her for a date and she kicked me to Alaska. Now I need to get out or something. I will get back to you humans later. Stay in school and don't let stray dogs talk you into giving them your steak and corn on the cob.
The End

Connor: D&D
Tonight we completed a whole book of adventures in D and D. As Aust Sianodel, an elven duskblade, me and the rest of the team took down someone who worships the evil goddess of disease. I knocked her down with one hit. Then after we killed her she turned into some undead person. We took her down, but it wasn't easy. She just wouldn't die. Before we fought her we fought a vampire who was doing experiments on some dude. This kind of vampire was the kind you see in a really old movie. This type of vampire called a Nosferatu which looked like something out of the movie of the same name.

Connor: Our Week So Far
Okay toes this past week has been a lot of fun. Just to recap on the week I will tell you what we did and how much fun I had doing it. First off we went on a three day camping trip. When we got home Daddio and the oldest four toes watched Phantasm 2. Now today we put up some ornaments from Grandma and Grandpa, thanks by the way. Tonight we are playing D&D and it is Marney's first time as a pixie.

Gabe: Camping

We are going camping soon at Inks Lake on Thanksgiving. I think camping is lots of fun. I hope we get a big camp site that has lots of trees so we can use the hammock. I want to go on a hike up the mountains and I want to have a scavenger hunt while we are hiking. I also want to eat tortilla smores, because they are really tasty and better than normal smores. I love camping with my family a lot.

Gabe: Birds

We had Adventure Club on Wednesday at Robin's house with the homeschool group. We learned a lot about birds. Mom taught us how to dissect owl pellets, there were lots of bones in mine. The owl pellets were really cool but they were hard like a nut. We had a snack called Pigeon Poop, it had pretzels, cereal, marshmallows and chocolate. We went on a bird hunt with Robin. Robin taught us that she has lots of different kinds of birds at her house. I think we saw a sparrow and it was black. It was very, very, very fun.

Gabe: Halloween
We had lots of fun doing stuff on Halloween with our friends. We did a great and fun recorder show. We did Follow the Leader on the recorder. We also played solos. I played Au Clair De La Lune. I think I did really good. There is a video of us playing Follow The Leader. We also did an art show with the Weavers. My favorite things that we made were the pinch pots because one of my pinch pots I am going to use as a money pot. We went camping at my Nana's house. We did lots of stuff, like play Ghost the Graveyard. My favorite part of camping was roasting marshmallows because I didn't eat it but it would get really big and then burn.

Kennedy is a candy cane and I think she will look sweet. Max is Santa Claus and Jack is a gingerbread man.

Daddio: Attack of the Centipede!
Determined not to let it starve, we did some research on the internet and found out that centipedes are "generalist" predators, which means they pretty much eat anything that's not too much bigger than it and that they can catch. It said that usually this means they eat worms and grubs and stuff like that. Yesterday we went to find some worms, but it was raining and we couldn't find any right away, so we grabbed a snail and threw it in the cage. The centipede didn't have much interest in the snail. Maybe the shell doesn't look very appetizing.
Well on the way back from our failed bowling trip (I'll post about that later), we were getting out of the van and saw a giant, fat earthworm. Gabe picked it up, we ran into the house and I threw it in the cage with the centipede. He jumped right on it and started munching away on it. He started at the head and just kept working his way down. A couple hours later, he was still eating it and wasn't even half way through. He's taking a break now and drinking some water we put in his shell. I guess eating a juicy earthworm makes you hungry.
Coolest. Thing. Ever.

Gabe: A Book Review

1000 Facts On Bugs
Edited By Barbara Taylor
Edited By Barbara Taylor
This book is all about bugs. I like the order that it is in. My favorite bug is the rhino beetle because it looks cool. I think people who like science and bugs should read this book.
