The first part of my novel is done. It's just under 30 chapters and over 49,000 words, which roughly translates to 120 pages of a paperback novel. There will be three parts, and I expect that each will be about as long as the first.
Before I start on the second and third sections, I'm rereading and fixing some of the stuff in the first section. Mostly it's style changes because I hit my rhythm and a consistent tone around chapter four. My hope is to have all of my initial changes and fixes done to the first section before my trial (in two weeks). Then Mommio's going to read it to the kids and get input from them, and we're going to let a couple other people read it and help me troubleshoot parts of the setting that I might have gotten wrong-- stuff that has to do with raising animals and farming stuff. Once I get input from everyone, then I'll start on the next section.
After rereading what I've written so far, I'm really happy with it. I think it's pretty good, and I'm excited to finish it and let everyone get to read it.
