Daddio: The Book is Almost Done!
I haven't given an update on the book I'm writing for the kids. I think I started it in July, so I've been writing for just over three months. I'm about halfway through the third (and last) part of the book, and it's just over 125,000 words-- about 290 pages of your average paperback novel. Jen's about half way through reading it to the kids and they love it so far. I'm excited for them to read the end. It will be done soon.

Daddio: Starting Part Two
I've finished my second read through and edits of the first part of my book (which means it's been proofed four times now), and I'm ready to move on to the second part. I'm excited to get writing again, since I have the whole story in my head, but need to get it on paper for you toes to read.
Fortunately, my trial settled which means that I'm back on a normal sleep schedule and have my evenings and weekends to write again. So hopefully I'll be able to get Part Two done in a month or so-- at least that's my goal.

Daddio: The Book (Update)
The first part of my novel is done. It's just under 30 chapters and over 49,000 words, which roughly translates to 120 pages of a paperback novel. There will be three parts, and I expect that each will be about as long as the first.
Before I start on the second and third sections, I'm rereading and fixing some of the stuff in the first section. Mostly it's style changes because I hit my rhythm and a consistent tone around chapter four. My hope is to have all of my initial changes and fixes done to the first section before my trial (in two weeks). Then Mommio's going to read it to the kids and get input from them, and we're going to let a couple other people read it and help me troubleshoot parts of the setting that I might have gotten wrong-- stuff that has to do with raising animals and farming stuff. Once I get input from everyone, then I'll start on the next section.
After rereading what I've written so far, I'm really happy with it. I think it's pretty good, and I'm excited to finish it and let everyone get to read it.

Daddio: Book Update, Bowling Luck and Jury Summons
Just an update on my awesome book. After 49,000+ words, the first part (there will be three parts total) of the book is finished. Before I move on to the second and third sections to finish the book, I want to do a close reread of the first part and rewrite a few things I know I want to change. Then I want to get some feedback from the kids. Depending on their feedback, I may change more, or move on to the second part.
ALSO- I need everyone's luck. This Wednesday night is my law firm's annual bowling tournament. Please send me best wishes so that I don't embarrass myself.
Finally, Mommio and I both got jury summons to serve at the same time. How ridiculous is that? Because she's a stay at home mom, she's exempt and doesn't have to serve. I filled out my questionnaire this morning and gave the dates that I can't make it. I've never served on a jury (they always reject the lawyers from the jury pool- I do it too for my own trials), and it would stink having to spend a few days away from work and other stuff to serve. But it would be pretty cool to see what a trial is like from the juror's perspective. Ideally, I'd like to get picked for a small one or two day trial, just for the experience of it.

Daddio: A Book for the Kids
The kids already know this, but I'm in the process of writing a novel for them tentatively titled "The Norns' Quest." It's a weird post-apocalyptic fantasy story with ties to Norse mythology, but I don't want to give too much of it away. But the kids are excited to know that there are going to be characters in it inspired by each of them. I've only got about 8,500 words written right now, and I'm still only at the beginning, but I'm really happy with what I've written. And Mommio is proofreading it for me as I write, and she likes the story a lot so far.
