There are many (in fact so many we can't count) reasons why Nana is so special to us all. But, way up on the top of the list is the special day she spends with each of the toes for their birthday. We call it their Alone Nana Day, and it is planned for months in advance by each child...and even by the non-birthday kids. It always involves a few standard things: First, a trip to the bookstore where Nana takes a list that has been prepared with a book choice for every member of the family. The kids all love going to the bookstore and picking whatever they choose and the kids at home for the day LOVE the return of Nana with books for them. It is definitely one of my favorite things- seeing the kids all get so excited about their new books. Following the bookstore they basically do whatever else the kids want to do (movies, a trip to a store, the park or other special things). Then they end the day by having dinner at Chili's with Nana and Popo. After that, anyone 3 and older gets to also spend the night at Nana and Popo's house and have breakfast made to order in bed the next morning. It is always the perfect birthday gift for every one of the toes. Yesterday was Jack's Alone Nana Day. His day was short and sweet- a trip to the bookstore, home to play with Nana and out to dinner. But it was still his best day ever and he came home very happy with his new penguin toy and book!
