Dear Diary,                                                                                                                            May/ 16/1799
Yesterday was great, I just had to walk off my boat and France was mine.  I've got it good. I am the first non French ruler of France.  I have my whole week planned out as follows: Monday swim and hire new workers, Tuesday nap and enjoy my days, Wednesday have an artisan paint a portrait of me, Thursday I will conquer Britian, Friday I will easily enjoy this new empire and study those Egyptian artifacts I found and kept for myself.  Being rich and smart really pays off.  I have taxed the citizens even more and yet they treat me better than old King Louis.   I have excited myself  with the prospect of ruling the world.  I am great at riding my small horse, perfectly suited to my height.  I will speak to you again much later. As the French would say, "Bon Voyage". 

Connor : George and Rex's action mystery

Howdy people I am here to solve this mystery. Aw shut up mister Funny Fur.  Rex could you please hand me that baseball bat next to you? Yeah sure what ya need it for.  Oh I just want to knock you out.  In that case forget it.  Rex come back here.  No way captain Funny Fur. Okay his insults aside I fear we were trapped on a boat to be more precise.   A pirate ship George just come out and say it.  Anyway it belonged to Blackfur the pirate,  Blackbeard's dog  and he didn't like us on board.  Well we fought him or I fought him captain Funny Fur was cowering in the corner.  The fight did not go over so well for Rex.  Well we finally got back home and there were Gracie, Jack and Loki.  They told us that we had to figure out who had sent us back in time. Look unlike captain Funny Fur here I am tired of this. So Rex would you prefer me telling the story of the mystery in more detail.  Spare me please.  Okay so long story short:  Rex and I found out that we were sent to the past by Popo and Nana to keep me from harming the kids and Rex from insulting Lucy.  Oh by the way Lucy is is dumb.  Rex shut up.  

Connor: Festival Park On Roanoke Island

Today we went to Festival Park on Roanoke Island.  I loved learning all about the history of Roanoke  because it is very exciting.  I learned about  Black Beard the pirate.  I learned that the wreckage of his ship is off the coast of Bath, North Carolina.  We saw lots of outside exhibits, one of which  was a recreation of The Queen Elizabeth II ship.  The recreation of the Queen Elizabeth II was  gigantic, full of items, and just totally awesome.  Nana, you would have loved it.  Daddio said that it reminded him of Jamestown.  I can't wait to find out what we will do tomorrow.  

Connor: What I Learned In History

So far I have read about some cool things in history. I learned about P.T. Barnum and his practical jokes. Like one joke he played was on a door he had the words to the egress. People thought an egress was a cool new creature or something like that. It turns out egress is a fancy word for exit, so when people went through the door they had to pay to get back in. I also learned about Mark Twain, but his real name was Samuele Clemens. I learned about all the books made by Mark Twain. I also learned about immigration and the problems people had with it. Immigration is still a problem today because even though immigrants are doing the jobs most of the American people don't want and for a lower price. I learned that at one point in our history some people did not like people who look different and this is still true today. I also learned that The American Party did not like Catholics and people from other countries.

A Moment In History: Attila The Hun By Connor

Attila the Hun was born in 406C.E, he was born in a part of Asia. His father was named Mundzuk and his mom's name is unknown. Attila's uncle Rugila,who was king of the Huns, died in 434 C.E. Rugila left the throne to Attila's brother Bleda and Attila. Attila and Bleda made deals with the Romans about hostages. They had many wars against the Romans and won most of them. Attila and Bleda were very scary from the Roman point of view.

Bleda and Attila waged war on mainly east Rome, but they also attacked west Rome. They were among Rome's worst enemies. Attila's empire included the country of Germany.
The Hunnic empire was very big and one of the many civilizations of barbarians in history. Attila the Hun and Bleda had been attacking Rome for many years.

Bleda died in a "hunting accident" arranged by his brother Attila in 445 C.E, Attila then ruled alone. Attila attacked Rome a lot. He took over much of the Roman empire. He never attacked the capital of Rome, which was called Constantinople. He captured Italy and because he scared away the residents of Italy, the residents founded the city of Venice.

He returned to his throne and he took a very short break from attacking Rome and Italy. Then he got a letter from the new west Roman ruler's sister. She said that she wanted to get away from her brother and she sent her own engagement ring to pay him. Attila the Hun mistook this for a sign that she wished to marry him.

He rode to west Rome and told the ruler that he wanted some of the empire as a wedding gift. The ruler was quite mad because his sister was going to marry one of west Rome's allies's leaders. Then there was a war with two armies against one. Attila, was not out numbered but he did only have one army. In the end Attila came out on top. Attila won the fight by killing one of the enemy's leaders. Days latter Attila died. Many think that he had choked on his own blood ,but others believe that he was killed by a traitor among his own men or that a Roman killed him. No matter which one is true, his own sons buried his body in a river bank. To this day no one knows where his body is. Attila the Hun is beleived to be realated to Gengis Khan.
