One of the great tragedies of any civil war is that friends, neighbors and even family members sometimes end up on opposing sides in the war. This happened often in the American Civil War. Brothers, even fathers and sons, fought one another on the battlefield. Generals who all trained together and became close friends at the same military academies found themselves planning assaults against one another. Old school friends found themselves face to face with each other holding weapons.
Today I want you to choose one of your soldier characters and pretend that they have a good friend who is fighting on the opposite side of the war. Write a letter from your soldier (during the war) to their good friend. Maybe you just saw them at a recent battle, maybe you heard news about their regiment and are wondering how he is doing....the letter can be about anything you'd like, just remember you are friends AND enemies. Ten points go to your regiment for each person who writes a letter.
