In our Artistic Pursuits class today we took another look at Post Impressionist painter
Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890).
We have studied Van Gogh several times earlier on in our art studies so we did not spend a lot of time discussing his life today. We did watch this short video of his work and talk about how his work compares to Impressionist art. We also took a look at his use of bold colors and swirling lines.
For this lesson we took a closer look at Van Gogh's The Starry Night, 1889.
We mimicked his use of bright color on a dark background and long lines by doing a lesson we found online with black construction paper and chalk pastels. The kids were able to copy The Starry Night or come up with their own unique night scene.
Here are the finished Van Gogh inspired creations. Next week we move on to Modern Art!
